John Denver
John Denver isn't so much of an influence as much as he is one of the people who was my introduction to music in general. My dad would play the songs he had on his iPod playlist back when I was too young to really listen to music myself, and John Denver was a favorite of his. Because of this, I began to appreciate music itself for the connection it brings between people with it.

Africa by Toto
|
This song has probably influenced everyone who has listened to it, mostly by getting stuck in their head for days. One of the earliest songs I found and listened to on my own, this was not only one of my first forays into finding my own musical preference, but the fact that the lyrics are kinda meaningless and yet everyone loves the song helped show me that sometimes the music behind it all is enough.

Matchbox Twenty
After years of only really listening to music from the 80s decade, just a few years back, I began to listen to things outside of my comfort zone, and that's where I found a new place of comfort. While I don't necessarily love every song by them, a lot of the songs I do enjoy, and that allowed me to realize that good music can be in even the places you don't think to look anymore.

Video Game Music
|
I don't have any specific song from a video game that i love the most, as there are just too many to love. The broad range of music that each was created to evoke different emotions fascinated me, and when I found out that my little brother Noah loved them too, we bonded over it together. Music from a title screen can be invigorating to get you pumped for the game, music during a boss fight multiplies the adrenaline coursing through, and overworld music can fade into the background while still keeping your attention as you spend hours just walking from one place in the game to another.

80s Music
80s music is the biggest genre that I listen to for several reasons. The first is that it was the first type of music I liked, the second is that there are so many enjoyable songs that I could listen for hours just absorbing multiple genres, and the last is the fact that everyone in my family enjoys it. My parents were alive during this time to appreciate it, but despite it being created decades before I was born, I love it just as much. This timeless quality to the music is something I hope to emulate, for music can be appreciated by anyone, and I want my to be of a quality that it can last for just as long.
